Frustrated from Melasma, Dark Spots & Hyperpigmentation? Part One

Hello Friends,

Did you know that Melasma is a stubborn form of hyperpigmentation and arguably one of the most annoying skin issues? I have firsthand experience since my mom and I during my teenage years suffered from melasma, hyperpigmentation and dark spots, on and off for a long time, which took away our confidence and “rubbed” us from social life for years. Being initially a star student in Chemistry, and afterwards a PhD Research Chemist and a US Inventor, I have spent many years researching the root cause of melasma and also what types of clean and effective skincare super-actives could work against melasma.

Let us take things from the beginning: What is Melasma? Melasma is often the “ugly looking” widespread brown or greyish mask-like patches on the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead and above upper lip.  Studies show that over 80% of people with melasma are women between 20 and 50 years old, so really, any woman can get it. Throughout the years, I have interviewed women with melasma who have shared that the appearance of melasma on their face and neck has diminished their confidence and taken away the joy of life and feel that melasma makes them look 8-10 years older than they are.

In the next blog, we’ll talk about the biggest culprits that lead to melasma… Stay tuned.
